paintings by Indonesian painter/ Rusli and Srihadi

in this post, our gallery now featuring some works done by Srihadi Sudarsono and Rusli, both are native of Indonesia.

Rusli born on 1916.

Born in Medan, Indonesia, Rusli studied extensively at Santiniketan University in India. His academic interests included painting, philosophy and literature. From 1954 to 1956 he lectured at the Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts, Yogyakarta. He has had exhibitions in The Hague, Rome and Amsterdam during his travels in Europe. In South East Asia he has enjoyed exhibitions in Yogyakarta, Denpasar and Bandung.

Born on 1931 in Surakarta, Srihadi Sudarsono studied at the Bandung Institute of Technology before going on to Ohio State University to earn his masters degree. While in the United States he was impressed with and influenced by the Abstract Expressionists. Following his return to Indonesia his work has become less abstract and more representational with time. He taught at the Bandung Institute of Technology and became the art department chairman in 1970. Srihadi Sudarsono also became chair of the art department of the Jakarta Institute of the Arts in 1973. His many honors include the Fulbright-Hays Grant (1979), the silver medal at the Seoul International Art Competition (1985), the Japan Foundation Cultural Grant (1990), and Cultural Awards for his paintings from the Indonesian (1971) and Australian (1973) governments.
